More than 10,000MW of wind energy generated during 2009
The annual report from the E.W.E.A emphasizes the positive development of the most recently connected wind farms in 2009
2009 was a very positive year for wind energy in Europe. For the second consecutive year wind energy was the leading technology with regard to newly-installed power. With its market share of 39% it lies ahead of gas power plants (26%) as well as solar energy (16%).
A total of 10,163MW of wind energy became operational, resulting in a total European output of 74,767MW. The growth has mainly been achieved in the mature markets such as Germany and Spain with almost 2,500MW commissioned, followed by Italy, Great Britain and France. Investments reached a total of 13 billion Euros.
